Avalokiteshvara is the bodhisattva of compassion and protector of Tibet, incarnate in the lineage of Dalai Lamas. His thousand eyes allow him to see the suffering of this world. With his thousand arms he is able to assist the myriad of sentient beings. He has eleven faces, the top of which is Amitabha, the Buddha to whose family he belongs. In his hand he holds the precious jewel of enlightenment, which symbolizes true compassion for all beings. The Tibetan word for Avalokiteshvara is Chenrezig.
